  The Significance of Friday

The importance of Friday in Islam,The Significance of Friday in Islam,

The day of Jumu’ah is full of great blessings:

  1. Jumu’ah in the Holy Quran:

The day of Jumu’ah is significantly mentioned in the Holy Quran which reveals its excellence:

‘O believers! When the call is made for the prayer on Friday, hasten towards the remembrance of Allah and leave business. This is better for you if you know.

(Al-Jumu’ah 62, Verse 9)

  1. Hazrat Sayyiduna Adam and Hazrat Hawwa’s – peace be upon him and may Allah be pleased with her – Nikah:

Hazrat Sayyiduna Adam and Hawwa – peace be upon him and may Allah be pleased with her – entered the paradise on Friday and their Nikah was also performed on Friday.

Hazrat Adam – peace be upon him – was blessed with all kinds of blessings in paradise but he had no companion which caused him grief.  Once, when Hazrat Adam – peace be upon him – fell asleep and then Allah Almighty commanded Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon him – to detach one of his left ribs without causing him any pain.  According to Allah’s command Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon him – detached his left rib from his body with which Allah Almighty created Hazrat Hawwa – may Allah be pleased with her – and adorned her with all kinds of beauty and graces.  She was then clothed with 70 garments of the heavenly clothes and sat on a chair.  When Hazrat Adam – peace be upon him – got up and saw her, he asked, “Who are you and what are you doing here?”

Hazrat Hawwa – may Allah be pleased with her – replied, “Allah Almighty has created me for you.”  He said, “Come closer.”  Hazrat Hawwa – may Allah be pleased with her – replied, “No, but rather you should come to me.”  He got up and walked towards her.  Ulama state that this tradition has been such since that time that, the man proposes to a woman.  When he came closer to her and stretched his hand towards her, a voice came, “Stop, O Adam!”  She is not Halaal for you unless you marry her and give Mahr.”  Allah Almighty commanded the people of paradise to decorate the paradise and then He commanded the angels of the sky to gather by the tree of Tooba and then Allah Almighty stated His praises.

When Allah Almighty gave her hand into his she asked him for the Mahr.  Hazrat Adam – peace be upon him – requested in Allah’s court, “What shall I give as Mahr; gold, silver or rubies?”  Almighty replied, “None of these.”  He asked again, “Should I keep fast, offer Salah and recite your Tasbeeh as Mahr?”  He replied, “No.”  Hazrat Adam – peace be upon him – asked, “What should I pay as Mahr then?”  Allah Almighty replied, “Recite 10 times Durood upon My beloved Prophet and that will be her Mahr.”

(Kitaab Al-Sab’iyyaat p. 111-112)

Allah Almighty commanded Hazrat Adam – peace be upon him – to recite Durood upon the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – so that He would make Hazrat Hawwa – may Allah be pleased with her – Halaal for him and He commanded the Ummah of Hazrat Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him:

یٰۤاَیُّہَا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا صَلُّوۡا عَلَیۡہِ وَ سَلِّمُوۡا تَسْلِیۡمًا ﴿۵۶﴾

O you who believe! send upon him blessings and salute him fully well in abundance.

(Al-Ahzaab 33, Verse 56)

To send Durood so that He would make the Jahannam Haraam for them and ordered to send Salaam upon him so He would make the paradise Halaal for them.

(Kitaab Al-Sab’iyyaat p. 112)

  1. Hazrat Yusuf’s – peace be upon him – Marriage with Zulekha:

Although Hazrat Zulekha became very old and poor, and lost her eyesight as days passed by but her love for Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon him – increased more every day.  It is mentioned that she used to worship idols and sought their help but when her prayers were not answered she would break them, and when she finally gave up her hope in idols then she brought Imaan in Allah Almighty.
She prayed very hard in a night of Friday in the court of Allah Almighty and supplicated, “Neither do I have my beauty nor do I possess any wealth anymore.  I have become blind and very old.  You have placed Hazrat Yusuf’s – peace be upon him – love in my heart, so either tie my bond with him or remove his love from my heart.”

The angels heard her prayers and conveyed her sincere Du’a to Allah Almighty.  Allah Almighty stated, “Now, the time for her salvation has arrived.”

It is mentioned that Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon him – used to pass by her hut whenever he would go out to travel.  Once, when he was passing by she came out and approached him saying, “How great Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala is who made a slave the king!”

Hearing this Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon him – stopped and asked her, “Who are you?”  She replied, “I am the one who had bought you in exchange of gold and silver and pearls.  I am the one that since I have been trapped in your love I have never eaten to my satisfaction and from the time I have seen you I have never slept peacefully.”

Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon him – said, “Perhaps you are Zulekha.”  She said, “Yes, I am.”  He asked, “Where has your beauty and wealth gone?”  She replied, “Your love has destroyed everything.”  He asked, “How is the state of your love now?”  She replied, “It only increases with each moment.”  He then asked, “What do you want?”  She replied, “Three things; my beauty, wealth and your bond.”  When Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon him – was about to leave, Allah Almighty sent him Wahy, “O Yusuf, you have not responded to what she asked.  Know, that Allah Almighty has performed your Nikah with Zulekha and He Himself delivered the sermon and the witnesses in the Nikah are the angels and the Hoories of paradise who have showered the pearls.”

Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon him – said to Hazrat Jibreel, “O Jibreel, Zulekha neither possesses the beauty nor wealth nor is she young anymore.”

Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon him – said, “Allah Almighty states that although she does not possess her beauty and wealth anymore but Allah Almighty who is the most Powerful, has blessed her with more beauty and she looks even younger than before and she appears to be only 14 years old girl.”  Allah Almighty placed her love in his heart and the matter was turned around.  The lover had now become the beloved and vice-versa.  When Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon him – arrived at his place he went in privacy with Hazrat Zulekha but he saw her busy reading Salah.  He waited for her for quite a long time and finally when she concluded her Salah he said, “Are you the same Zulekha who had torn my shirt?”  She replied, “Yes, I am the same Zulekha but my heart is not the same as it used to be.”

Zulekha once again started to get ready for Salah then Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon him – grabbed her shirt and pulled her towards him which caused it to tear and then Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon him – descended and said, “She had torn your shirt before and now you have torn hers, so now, you both are even.”

(Kitaab Al-Sab’iyyaat p. 114)

  1. Hazrat Moosa’s – peace be upon him – Marriage with Safoora:

His Nikah with her took place on Friday about which Allah Almighty has stated:

قَالَتْ اِحْدٰىہُمَا یٰۤاَبَتِ اسْتَاۡجِرْہُ ۫ اِنَّ خَیۡرَ مَنِ اسْتَاۡجَرْتَ الْقَوِیُّ الْاَمِیۡنُ ﴿۲۶﴾

One of the two women said, ‘O my father’ employ him’. Undoubtedly, the best employee is he who is strong and trustworthy’.

(Al-Qasas 28, Verse 26)

When Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon him – reached Madyan and gave water to the thirsty goats of Sayyiduna Shu’aib – peace be upon him – and then rested under a tree,  he felt very weak, hungry and strange and he started to say, “I have become poor, I am hungry, I am ill.”  A voice came, “Ill is the one who does not have a Doctor like Me and weak is the one who does not have a Friend like Me and poor is the one who does not have Me as his Fortune and a refugee is he who does not have a Beloved like Me.”

Allah Almighty narrates this incident in the Holy Quran:

فَسَقٰی لَہُمَا ثُمَّ تَوَلّٰۤی اِلَی الظِّلِّ فَقَالَ رَبِّ اِنِّی لِمَاۤ اَنۡزَلْتَ اِلَیَّ مِنْ خَیۡرٍ فَقِیۡرٌ ﴿۲۴﴾

Then Musa watered their animals for them both, then turned back towards the shade, and said, ‘O my Lord’, I am in need of that food which You may send down for me.’

(Al-Qasas 28, Verse 24)

When the two daughters returned home quite early that day, their father, Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – asked them about the reason for returning early, and they replied, “We found a pious man who was tender towards us and gave our cattle water.”  The father said to one of his daughters, by the name of Safoora, to and bring that pious man to him.  Allah Almighty states about this incident as follows:

فَجَآءَتْہُ اِحْدٰىہُمَا تَمْشِیۡ عَلَی اسْتِحْیَآءٍ ۫ قَالَتْ اِنَّ اَبِیۡ یَدْعُوۡکَ لِیَجْزِیَکَ اَجْرَ مَا سَقَیۡتَ لَنَا

Then one of the two came to him walking bashfully and said, ‘my father invites you that he may give you wage for that you have watered our animals’.

(Al-Qasas 28, Verse 25)

Although Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon him – did not agree on taking wages for his service but he left with the intention of visiting Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – and said to his daughter to walk behind him and give him direction.  He had done this due to his modest nature, and this is how he arrived at his house and when he entered and approached Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – the food was served.

Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – invited him to join him in the meal but Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon him – sought refuge from accepting his invite.  Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – asked, “Why are you hesitating in eating with me?  Are you not hungry?”

He replied, “I fear, what if this meal becomes a wages for my action which I have done by giving your cattle water because we are the people that do not expect anything in return upon doing a virtuous action.”

Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – said, “It’s nothing like that, young man.  This meal is not a reward for your work but it’s the custom of my forefathers to serve the guests.”

He ate the food and then he related to him all what had transpired with Pharaoh.  He told him all about it from the time of his birth till the time he left Egypt.

Allah Almighty states:

When Musa came to him and related to him the story, he said, ‘fear not; you have been rescued from the oppressors’

(Al-Qasas 28, Verse 25)

Because it was Madyan where there is no kingdom of Pharaoh.  Hazrat Safoora, whom her father had sent to call Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon him, said to her father, “Keep him as a servant, O father, so that he can take care of the cattle and then we will not have do this work, for this man has great strength and he is very trustworthy.”

Allah Almighty states:

One of the two women said, ‘O my father’ employ him’. Undoubtedly, the best employee is he who is strong and trustworthy’.

(Al-Qasas 28, Verse 26)

Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – asked her, “How would you know about his strength and trustworthiness?”

She replied, “I know his strength because he lifted the rock from the well which only 10 people could barely move collectively and I know his trustworthiness because when he saw us he lowered his gaze and did not stare and told us to walk behind him so if our clothes move from our body due to heavy wind he would not see it.”  After hearing this, Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – said to Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon him, “I wish to get you married to one of my daughters.”

Allah Almighty states:

He said, ‘I intend that I may marry to you one of my two daughters.

(Al-Qasas 28, Verse 27)

Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon him – said, “I am not capable of fulfilling the requirement of Mahr.”

Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – replied:

عَلٰۤی اَنۡ تَاۡجُرَنِیۡ ثَمٰنِیَ حِجَجٍ

On the condition of such a dower that you may serve me for eight years.

(Al-Qasas 28, Verse 27)

Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon him – agreed to it.  Hazrat Shu’aib – peace be upon him – invited the people of his area and married Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon him – to his daughter.  This incident occurred on Friday.

(Kitaab Al-Sab’iyyaat p. 116)

  1. Hazrat Sulaiman’s – peace be upon him – Marriage with Bilqees:

It occurred on a Friday.  Generally, all the bird species were obedient to Hazrat Sulaiman – peace be upon him – but his Hoopoe was famous for his service and obedience to him.  It was this Hoopoe who informed him about Bilqees, the queen of Sheba, “She sits on a throne and rules over the people and she has all the necessary assets which a king should have.  She has everything but she and her people worship the stars.”  Upon receiving this news, the letter Hazrat Sulaiman – peace be upon him – wrote to her was delivered by the Hoopoe.  Hence, the Holy Quran states as follows:

اِذْہَبۡ بِّکِتٰبِیۡ ہٰذَا فَاَلْقِہۡ اِلَیۡہِمْ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّ عَنْہُمْ فَانۡظُرْ مَاذَا یَرْجِعُوۡنَ ﴿۲۸﴾

Take my this edict and cast it to them, then moving aside from them see what answer they return.

(Al-Naml 27, Verse 28)

However, when the Hoopoe delivered the letter and dropped the letter in Bilqees’ lap from above she had gathered the honourable dignitaries and the official members of the government, and then she was shaken by the writing in the letter and said to her chiefs:

یٰۤاَیُّہَا الۡمَلَؤُا اِنِّیۡۤ اُلْقِیَ اِلَیَّ کِتٰبٌ کَرِیۡمٌ ﴿۲۹﴾

‘O chiefs! undoubtedly there has been cast a noble letter towards me.

Undoubtedly, it is from Sulaiman and it is by the name of Allah, the Most Affectionate, and the Merciful.

That you seek not exaltness against me and came to me submitting’.

(Al-Naml 27, Verse 29-31)

After reading the letter when she had a meeting with her ministers and important dignitaries and army officers, they revealed their intention of starting a war against Hazrat Sulaiman – peace be upon him.  Bilqees, who was a wise person, tried to calm them and explained to them, “Starting a war is not advisable, for this will cause the ruin of the city and the honourable citizens will lose their dignity, therefore I find it advisable to send him some gifts and that will declare him in the test whether he is a king or also a Nabi of Allah Almighty as well.  If he is a Prophet he will never accept my presents but he will rather enforce the obedience of Deen upon us and if he is just a king he will accept my gifts and will calm down.”

She sent him five hundred male slaves and 500 females slaves adorned with jewelleries and expensive clothes, 500 gold bricks and a lot of other jewelleries and fragrances such as Musk etc. and a crown with a letter via her messenger.  The Hoopoe saw all of this and returned to him and gave him the news in his court.  Hence, when Bilqees’ messenger came after a few days he entered his court with the gifts and Hazrat Sulaiman – peace be upon him – addressed him and spoke to him in anger:

اَتُمِدُّوۡنَنِ بِمَالٍ ۫ فَمَاۤ اٰتٰىنَِۧ اللہُ خَیۡرٌ مِّمَّاۤ اٰتٰىکُمۡ ۚ بَلْ اَنۡتُمۡ بِہَدِیَّتِکُمْ تَفْرَحُوۡنَ ﴿۳۶﴾

‘Do you help me with wealth? But that which Allah has given me is better than that which He has given to you. Nay, it is you who rejoice in your gift.

Return to them, we shall therefore, bring that army to them against which they will have no power and we shall necessarily turn them out of the city disgraced in a manner that they will be humbled.

(Al-Naml 27, Verse 36-37)

When the messenger returned to Bilqees and told her what had transpired Bilqees appeared in the court of Hazrat Sulaiman – peace be upon him – and upon observing the surroundings and the environment of his court she realized that Hazrat Sulaiman – peace be upon him – is the true Prophet of Allah Almighty and his kingdom is from Allah Almighty.

The royal throne of Bilqees, the queen of Sheba, was 80 yards long and 40 yards wide.  It was decorated with gold, silver, pearls and different kinds of other precious stones.  When Hazrat Sulaiman – peace be upon him – returned her messenger along with the gifts and wrote to her a letter to embrace Islam and appear in his court, he wished in his heart if he could bring her throne there before she approaches him.  Hence, he made an announcement among his chiefs:

قَالَ یٰۤاَیُّہَا الۡمَلَؤُا اَیُّکُمْ یَاۡتِیۡنِیۡ بِعَرْشِہَا قَبْلَ اَنۡ یَّاۡتُوۡنِیۡ مُسْلِمِیۡنَ ﴿۳۸﴾

Sulaiman said, O chiefs, which is of you who may bring her throne to me before they come to me submitting?

One big evil Jin said, ‘I will bring you that throne before you rise from your sitting; and undoubtedly, I am powerful over that, trustworthy.

(Al-Naml 27, Verse 38-39)

After listening to the offer one Jinn amongst them had suggested, he said, “I want it to be delivered even sooner than that in my court.  Hearing this his chief, Hazrat Aasif Ibn Barkhiya – may Allah be pleased with him – who knew Ism Azam and he was also a miraculous Wali, he said to Hazrat Sulaiman as it is recorded in the Holy Quran:

One who had knowledge of the Book said, ‘I shall bring it to you before twinkling of an eye.’ Then when Sulaiman saw the throne set before him said, ‘This is of the grace of my Lord that He may try me whether I am grateful or ungrateful.’ And whosoever is grateful is grateful for his own good. And whosoever is ungrateful, then my Lord is Self-Sufficient, All virtuous.

(Al-Naml 27, Verse 40)

When Bilqees embraced Islam then Hazrat Sulaiman – peace be upon him – married her on the day of Jumu’ah.

(Ajaibul Quran p. 187-192)

  1. The Nikah of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – with Hazrat Khadeejah Al-Kubra – may Allah be pleased with her:

He married her on the day of Jumu’ah.  The details are of this Nikah are beautifully narrated by Hazrat Shaikh Imam Abu Nasr Muhammad Ibn Abdur Rahman Hamdani – may Allah be pleased with him – in his book “Kitaab Al-Sab’iyyaat Fi Mawaa’iz Al-Bariyyaat” as follows:

Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – saw in her dream that the sun descended and entered into her house and its light was so widespread that no house was deprived of its light in the entire city of Makkah Mukarramah.  When she got up she related her dream to her cousin Hazrat Warqah Ibn Naufal – may Allah be pleased with him – who was an expert interpreter.  He said, “The final Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – will be your husband.”  She asked, “Where will the Prophet be?”  He replied, “In Makkah Mukarramah.”  She then asked, “Which tribe does he belong to?”  He replied, “Bani Haashim of Quraish.”

She asked, “What is his name?”  He replied, “His name is Muhammad.”  And then Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – waited in anticipation for the sun to brighten her life.

One day, while the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – was having meal at the house of his uncle Abu Taalib, he and aunt ‘Aatikah began to talk about him, saying that since, he has become a grown man now but due to not having sufficient money we cannot get him married.  In the midst of this conversation, his aunt ‘Aatikah said that there is a businesswoman by the name of Khadeejah, and whoever makes her partner in business he becomes financially well off, and now, she is planning to make a business trip to Syria.  We shall give Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) in her custody, so he could get some shares in the money through which we may make arrangements for his wedding.”

She consulted the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – in this regard and he expressed his willingness towards it.

Hence, his aunt ‘Aatikah approached Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – and made her aware of the situation and requested her to keep Hazrat Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – as an employee.

Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – went into a deep thinking and said in her heart that it seems more likely to be the interpretation of her dream, for her uncle Hazrat Warqah Ibn Naufal had predicted that her husband will be an Arab, Makki and Haashimi, and his name was also Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) who has great moral values as well.

She thought to make Nikah with him at the same time but she held back based on some wisdom and she feared blasphemy.  She intended to keep him as an employee for the meantime and then Allah Almighty will create a better opportunity.

She said to ‘Aatikah, “I give every employee 20 gold coins but I shall give him 50.”  ‘Aatikah returned home happily and related the incident to Abu Taalib.  He advised him to go to Hazrat Khadeejah and do her work at her terms.

He went to her house but he was sad with tears in his eyes.  Finally, it was the time for the caravan to leave.  Maiserah, who was Hazrat Khadeejah’s slave and the leader of the caravan, said to the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – to take care of the rows of camels and head towards Syria and then the caravan left Makkah Mukarramah.

Allah Almighty sent a white cloud to cast shade over the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him.  Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – had already given Maiserah strict instructions to give the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – nice clothes and transportation, and he did as he was told.

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – mounted on the camel and the cloud was providing shade and cool breeze was fanning him all the while.  When the caravan reached near the temple of a monk on its way, they stopped under a tree and when the monk came out of the temple he saw that the clouds were providing the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – shade and he understood that this man is a Prophet.  He invited the caravan for meal so he could have the blessing of finding out more about the miraculous personality.

People of the caravan went inside the temple to eat but the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – himself was left behind to protect the caravan’s belongings.  When the monk came out of the temple and looked towards the caravan he saw that the shade of the cloud is still there.

He came inside and asked them whether one of their men was still by the caravan.  They replied, “Only an orphan employee who takes care of the camels and the belongings.  We had left him to take care of things.”

Hearing this the monk approached the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – and shook hands with him.  He then held his hand and brought him inside the temple.  When the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – left the monk noticed that the cloud also moved with him and when he entered the temple and sat to eat the monk saw that the cloud was now providing shade at the entrance.  The monk asked him, “Where are you from?”  He replied, “I am from Makkah Mukarramah.”  He then asked, “Which tribe do you belong to?”  He replied, “Quraish.”  He asked, “Which branch of Quraish?”  He replied, “Bani Haashim.”  And then he asked for his name and he replied, “My name is Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him).”

The monk fell on his blessed feet and kissed him on his forehead and read the Kalimah wholeheartedly:

لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللّٰہُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوْلُ اللّٰہِ

(ﷺ)

The monk then made a request to show him one more sign so that his faith in him becomes firm.  He asked, “And what is that supposed to be?”  He replied, “Please remove the clothes from your shoulders so I can see the seal of Prophethood.”  When he removed the clothes the monk was blessed with the Ziyaarat of the seal of Prophethood and finally, he became a true believer.

The caravan reached Syria and made business there.  It was the day of of ‘Eid for the jews of that place hence, Hazrat Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq and Maiserah went to the Eidgaah of the jews.  When the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – looked at the lamps that were hanging by chains, all the chains broke and fell down which feared the jews to a great extent.  When they consulted their learned men about it they said, “It’s written in Torah that when Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him), the final Prophet, will enter the Eidgaah of the jews then this sign will appear.  It seems that he has arrived here.”

The jews’ hearts were full of envy and malice about the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – and they said, “If we see him we will kill him.”  They started searching for him.

When Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq and Maiserah came to know about their conspiracy they quickly returned to Makkah Mukarramah.  When the caravan was still at the distance of 7 days to Makkah Mukarramah Maiserah sent the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – towards Makkah Mukarramah, so he could go and give Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – the good news of the arrival of the caravan.

Maiserah decorated a camel of good breed with silk fabric and sent him on it with a letter which contained the message:

“O the female leader of Quraish!  The trade was much more profitable this year compared to all the other years of business.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – headed to Makkah Mukarramah on the camel.

Allah Almighty commanded Hazrat Iibreel – peace be upon him – to narrow the land in the way of the camel and He commanded Hazrat Israfeel – peace be upon him – to guard him on his right hand and Hazrat Meeka’eel – peace be upon him – to guard him on the left and commanded the cloud to provide shade over him.  Allah Almighty caused the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – to sleep and he slept away and by the Power of Allah Almighty he entered the land of Makkah Mukarramah in a very short span of time.

Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – was with her female slaves in her house at that time.  When she looked towards Syria she noticed a man riding on a camel with a cloud providing shade over him.  She asked her slaves, “Have you any idea as to who is riding on that camel?”  One of them replied, “It appears to be Muhammad the Ameen [the trustworthy] (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him).”

Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – said, “If he is as you are saying then I set you all free in the happiness of his arrival.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – finally arrived at the gate and Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – gave him a warm welcome and said to him, “The camel on which you have arrived, I am giving it to you as a gift.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – returned to his uncle’s house.

A few days later, when he came to Hazrat Khadeejah’s – may Allah be pleased with her – house, she asked him the reason for his visit.  He replied that his uncle and aunt have sent him to collect his wages.  They want to get me married” and he looked down with modesty whilst relating it to her.

Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – said, “O Muhammad (peace be upon him), this wages is too little but if you wish, I can get you married to a woman who is both honorable and rich, and all the wealthy men of Arabia and even non- Arabs wish to marry her but she is not convinced.  If you agree then I can try to make her Nikah with you but she has a defect.  She was married before and her husband has passed away but if you still agree then she will serve you all her life.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – returned home without responding to her proposal and narrated to his aunt whatever she had said to him and here she thought that she was making fun of him.  Hence, his aunt visited Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – and said, “If you think that you are wealthy and rich then we too, come from a noble family.  Why did you make fun of my nephew?”

Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – apologized saying, “Who can dare make fun of your lineage but the truth is that I had proposed myself to Muhammad (peace be upon him).  If you accept me then I can marry him or else I will not marry anyone else.”

His aunt asked, “Does your cousin, Warqah Ibn Naufal know about it?”  She replied, “No, but you must tell your brother Abu Taalib to visit me as a guest and also invite Warqah Ibn Naufal, and then he must ask for my hand from him.”

Hazrat ‘Aatika (His aunt) returned home and narrated to him what had transpired.  He accepted the invite and he also invited Hazrat Warqah Ibn Naufal and asked for her hand from him.  He said, “I accept it but let me also ask her for her opinion.”

Hence, he went to Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – and consulted her about it.  She responded, “I cannot reject this proposal of marrying Muhammad (peace be upon him) because he is very trustworthy and honest and comes from a very noble family.”  Hazrat Warqah Ibn Naufal then said, “Well, that’s fine but they do not possess any wealth” upon which she said, “I do not need any wealth because I have more than enough of my own.  I make you my representative to make my Nikah with Muhammad (peace be upon him).”

Hazrat Warqah Ibn Naufal went to Abu Taalib’s house and after reading the Khutbah he performed the Nikah of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – with Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with him.  Hazrat Warqah Ibn Naufal requested him to go to Hazrat Khadeejah’s – may Allah be pleased with her – house.

Hence, he went to her house with Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq – may Allah be pleased with him.  Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – had 100 slaves sanding at the gate to welcome him with pearls and rubies in their hands.  As he entered they began to shower the pearls and rubies over him.  When he went inside the house, the meal was already served which was full of delicious cuisines.  They both ate and Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq – may Allah be pleased with him – departed after the meal and then Hazrat Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – said to him, “All my wealth, properties, slaves etc. are yours now.”

Allah Almighty therefore states:

وَ وَجَدَکَ عَآئِلًا فَاَغْنٰی ؕ﴿۸﴾

And He found you needy so He enriched you.

(Al-Dhuha 93, Verse 8)

It is narrated that she remained with him for 24 years, 5 months and 8 days after the marriage; 15 years prior to the beginning of revelation and the rest after that.  He had 7 children from her; 3 sons and 4 daughters:

  1. Hazrat Fatimah
  2. Hazrat Zainab
  3. Hazrat Ruqaiyah
  4. Hazrat Umme Kulthomm – may Allah be pleased with them all.

Hazrat Fatimah – may Allah be pleased with her – was married to Hazrat Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – and Hazrat Zainab – may Allah be pleased with her – to Abul ‘Aas.  Hazrat Umme Kulthoom – may Allah be pleased with her – was married to Hazrat ‘Uthmaan Ibn ‘Affaan – may Allah be pleased with him – but when she passed away then Hazrat Ruqaiyah – may Allah be pleased with her – was married to him, and all these marriages took place on Friday.

  1. The Marriage of Hazrat Sayyidah ‘Ayeshah Siddeeqah – may Allah be pleased with her – with the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him:

When Sayyidah Khadeejah – may Allah be pleased with her – the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – used to be sad all the while and his situation was sorrowful.  In order to eliminate this sad state, Allah Almighty summoned Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon him – with a paper to appear in his court on which the image of Sayyidah ‘Ayeshah – may Allah be pleased with her – was printed.  Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon him – arrived and showed conveyed Allah’s Salam to him and then said, “O Allah’s Messenger, Allah Almighty has stated that he has married you with this virgin girl in the picture in heaven, and you must marry her on the earth.”

Upon finding out it was revealed that she was Hazrat Abu Bakr’s – may Allah be pleased with him – daughter Hazrat ‘Ayeshah – may Allah be pleased with her.

He invited Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq – may Allah be pleased with him – and said to him, “Allah Almighty has performed the Nikah of your faughter with me in the heaven, therefore you should arrange for my Nikah with her on the earth.”

Hazrat Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – married his daughter Hazrat ‘Ayeshah – may Allah be pleased with her – to the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him.

Allah Almighty also revealed the following Quranic verses in order to endorse that she was pure:

اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ یَرْمُوۡنَ الْمُحْصَنٰتِ الْغٰفِلٰتِ الْمُؤْمِنٰتِ لُعِنُوۡا فِی الدُّنْیَا وَ الْاٰخِرَۃِ ۪ وَ لَہُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِیۡمٌ ﴿ۙ۲۳﴾

Undoubtedly, those who malign, unaware chaste believing women are cursed in the world and the Hereafter. And for them is the mighty torment.

On the day when their tongues and their hands and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do.

(Al Noor 24, Verse 23-24)
