Thursday is a blessed day of the week.  Its night is referred to as the bright night in the Hadeeth Shareef.  The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – has stated the following:

لَیْسَ عِنْدَ اللّٰہِ یَوٌمٌ وَّ لَا لَیْلَۃٌ تَعْدِلُ اللَّیْلَۃَ الْغَرَّاءَ وَالْیَوْمَ الْاَزْھَرَ

There is no day or night which is paralleled to the night of Thursday and the day of Friday.

(Jame’ Sagheer Vol. 5, p. 372)

It is mentioned in the Hadeeth Shareef that there are 24 such moments in each moment Allah Almighty grants the divine opportunity to 600,000 kuffaar to embrace Islam and freedom from the hell.

(Faid Al-Qadeer Vol. 5, p. 395)

The deeds of servants are presented before Allah Almighty on Thursday and Allah Almighty forgives them with his Ultimate Mercy save the ones that have envy for one another or cut blood ties.

The deeds of servants are presented before Allah Almighty on Thursday and Allah Almighty forgives them save the ones that have envy for one another or cut blood ties.

(Jame’ Sagheer Vol. 3, p. 250)

The gates of paradise are opened on Thursday and every believing servant is forgiven save the ones that is envious of his brethren.  It is mentioned in the Hadeeth Shareef as follows:

The gates of paradise are opened on Monday and Thursday and every believing servant, who has not associated any partners with Allah Almighty at all, is forgiven save the one that is envious of his brother.  It is said, “Give them time until they come to an understanding,”

(Jame’ Sagheer Vol. 3, p. 259)

Virtuous Actions on Thursday:

Thursday is so virtuous that to undertake the journey on this day is a means of succeeding in one’s endeavours.

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – used to go to battle on a Thursday.

(Jame’ Sagheer Vol. 5, p. 218)

He would also choose Thursday to undertake any journey in general according to Hazrat Umme Salimah – may Allah be pleased with Her.

(Jame’ Sagheer Vol. 5, p. 218)

Ummul Mu’mineen Hazrat ‘Ayesha Siddeeqah – may Allah be pleased with Her – narrated that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – stated that if it were not difficult for my Ummah I would stop them from travelling on Wednesday and choose Friday for travelling which is loved by me.

(Faid Al-Qadeer Vol. 1, p. 46)

Imam Qazweeni – may Allah be pleased with Him – mentioned that Thursday is a very blessed day, especially for seeking your necessities and undertaking a journey.  Hazrat Sakhr – may Allah be pleased with Him – used to travel on Thursdays and he became very wealthy.

(Faid Al-Qadeer Vol. 2, p. 14)

If one’s need is not fulfilled, then he should seek on Thursday and it will definitely be fulfilled.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas Ibn Malik – may Allah be pleased with Him – that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – has stated that Thursday is the day of fulfilling the needs.  When he was asked about the wisdom behind it, he replied, “Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – went to the Egyptian king on Thursday and he fulfilled his needs and granted him Hazrat Hajera – may Allah be pleased with Her.”

(Ghunyatut Taalibeen Vol. 2, p. 73)

It is recommended to start seeking ‘Ilm in the morning and to start the learning  of a new book on Thursday morning is much better although the pious predecessors have begun with teaching on Wednesday due to it being the day of Noor but Thursday is still a means of blessings for a start in learning.

(Faid Al-Qadeer Vol. 2, p. 17)

Some knowledgeable Walis have recommended to begin with reading and writing a book on Thursday.

Important Events That Occurred On Thursday:

Seven individuals; of which, there are some Prophets while the others are non-Prophets, have acquired seven things on Thursday:

  1. Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – went to the Egyptian king on Thursday and was granted Hazrat Hajera – may Allah be pleased with Her.
  2. The cup bearer of the Egyptian king was freed from jail on Thursday, as Allah Almighty stated:

‘O my two fellow prisoners! as for one of you he will serve wine for drink to his lord (King), and as for the other, he will be crucified, and the birds will eat of his head. The matter about which you inquired has been decreed.

(Yusuf 12, Verse 41)

  1. The brothers of Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – visited Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – on Thursday and were forgiven.
  2. When Hazrat Banyameen – may Allah be pleased with Him – entered Egypt he found Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him.
  3. When Hazrat Ya’qoob – peace be upon Him – entered Egypt he acquired peace. And tranquillity.
  4. When Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon him – entered Egypt he found Qibti.
  5. The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – entered the Makkah Mukarramah and acquired victory.

  1. Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – went to the Egyptian king on Thursday and was granted Hazrat Hajera – may Allah be pleased with Her.

Allah Almighty had turned the fire into a garden for Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – but Namrood still did not believe and did not embrace Imaan, and then Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – decided to go to Egypt:

وَقَالَ اِنِّیۡ ذَاہِبٌ اِلٰی رَبِّیۡ سَیَہۡدِیۡنِ ﴿۹۹﴾

And he said, ‘I am to go to my Lord’ now He shall guide me.

(Al-Saaffaat 37, Verse 99)

Hence, Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – travelled to Egypt with his wife Hazrat Sarah – may Allah be pleased with Her.  He was told that there is a tyrant king in Egypt who snatches people’s women by force and he has spread his watchmen all over.  Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – was strict about his dignity and Hazrat Sarah – may Allah be pleased with Her – was so beautiful that no one was paralleled in beauty compared to her in the world.  He locked Hazrat Sarah – may Allah be pleased with Her – in a box and loaded it onto the camel and headed towards Egypt.  When he approached the boarder he asked for a fee.

He said, “Okay.  I will give you whatever amount you ask but do not open the box.”  They started to argue and at last they opened the box and saw a beautiful woman inside.  They asked, “Is she you wife, O Ibraheem?”  He replied, “She is my sister (in-Islam).”  They took her to the king inside his palace but stopped Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – at the gate but Allah Almighty removed the veil of the wall for Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – and he could see her clearly from outside.

The tyrant king became full of lust when he saw Hazrat Sarah – may Allah be pleased with Her – and when he took out his hand to touch her with evil intentions his one hand and footbecame paralyzed.  He said to her, “You are doing black magic which is why my hand and foot is paralyzed.”

Hazrat Sarah replied, “No.  I do not know any magic tricks but my husband is Allah’s friend and it is due to his curse on you that your hand and foot has become paralyzed.  You must repent and then Allah Almighty will make your hand and foot healthy again.”

He repented and Allah Almighty made his limbs healthy again.  When he looked at Hazrat Sarah – may Allah be pleased with Her – he lost patience and extended his hand towards her and this time he was blinded in both his eyes.

He immediately accused her of doing wizardry, and then she gave him the same answer.

He repented again and when he casted his lustful glance at her for the third time and wanted to touch her with evil intention all seven body parts of his became paralyzed and once again he accused her of wizardry.

She replied the same as she previously had done.  He called in Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – and apologized, saying, “O Ibraheem, I will do as you say but please supplicate to your Lord to take me out of this difficulty.”

He made Du’a and the king recovered from the curse.  He gave his pious ladyslave Hazrat Hajera – may Allah be pleased with Her – to Hazrat Ibraheem as a gift and returned to him his wife Hazrat Sarah as well.

(Kitaab Al-Sab’iyyaat p. 97-98)

  1. The cup bearer of the Egyptian king was freed from jail on Thursday

It was a strange co-incidence that the day he entered the prison two other people; the king’s chef and the one who poured his drink, had both related their dreams to Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him.  He interpreted both their dreams and it was 100% accurate.  It is for this reason that he is also known as the “Mu’abbir” i.e. “One who interprets dreams”.

Allah Almighty stated in the Holy Quran:

And two young men entered the prison with him. One of them said, ‘I dreamed that I press wine’ and the other said, ‘I dreamed that there were some breads on my head whereof the birds are eating. Tell us its interpretation. No doubt, we see you righteous.

(Yusuf 12, Verse 36)

He gave him the glad tiding that the cup bearer will be appointed at his position again and will serve the king wine like before.  He will stay in the jail for three days only and then the king will call him back while the chef will be hanged to death and the birds will eat his brain.

It happened exactly as he had interpreted.

(Kitaab Al-Sab’iyyaat p. 101)

  1. Hazrat Yusuf’s – peace be upon Him – brothers visited him

His brothers also came from Kan’aan to Egtypt to purchase groceries.  Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – recognised them at first sight but his brothers could not recognize him.  He gave them the crops.

The Holy Quran narrates the incident as follows:

وَجَآءَ اِخْوَۃُ یُوۡسُفَ فَدَخَلُوۡا عَلَیۡہِ فَعَرَفَہُمْ وَہُمْ لَہٗ مُنۡکِرُوۡنَ ﴿۵۸﴾

And the brethren of Yousuf, came, then appeared before him, and Yousuf recognised them but they remained unaware of him.

(Yusuf 12, Verse 58)

  1. Banyamin’s visit to Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him:

His brothers also came from Kan’aan to Egypt for purchase.  Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – recognised them at first sight but his brothers could not recognize him.  He gave them the crops and said to them, “You have one more brother, bring him along the next time you come, and if you don’t you will not get anything.

The brothers replied, “We will try to convince our father.”  Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – summoned his slaves to put their cash back in their bags, so when they go back and see the cash they will hopefully return.

Hence, when they approached their father and said, “Dear father!  What are we going to do now?  The king of Egypt said that he will not give us anything if we do not bring Banyamin the next time, therefore, you should send Banyamin with us so that we can get the share of his crops as well, and we reassure that we will protect him.”

When they opened their bags they were surprised to see that their money was in their bag.  Seeing this the brothers again requested to their father, “The Egyptian king has a very good heart to treat us with suh generosity, so much so, that he has even returned our money, so you should not be afraid of sending Banyamin with us.”

Hazrat Ya’qoob – peace be upon Him – replied, “I have once trusted you with Yusuf, and what did you do in return?  How can I trust you a second time?  I will never send Banyamin with you save if you take an oath in front of me and promise me.”

They all took oath and then he gave them to take Banyamin with them.

When they reached in the court of the Egyptian king, Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – made his brother Banyamin sit on his chair and whispered in his ear, “I am your brother Yusuf, so don’t worry.”  He gave them their bags of grains and each one got their share.

And they went to Yousuf, he gave his brother a place near himself, he said, ‘Believe, I am your brother, therefore be not grieved of whatever they do.’

(Yusuf 12, Verse 69)

  1. Hazrat Ya’qoob’s – peace be upon Him – Arrival in Egypt and attaining peace:

When they were about to leave Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – stopped Banyamin and asked him to stay by him.  The brothers got worried thinking that they had promised and vowed before their father to protect Banyamin even if they had to sacrifice their lives for it, and here he was taken away from them.  They were in agony as to with what face should they head towards home.  Looking at the situation their oldest brother Yahooda said, “Think about the promise we made and the oath we took before our father, and we have already done injustice in the case of our brother Yusuf, which is why I will not move from this land until my father permits me to do so.  You all should go home and narrate the entire occurrence to father.”

When they reached home and related all what had transpired, Hazrat Ya’qoob – peace be upon Him – said to them, “You all have conspired about Banyamin as it was the case of Yusuf.  I will therefore, make Sabr, for it is a very good thing.”  He turned his face away and began to cry.  He cried vigorously.

He said to his sons, “My sons, go and search for my sons Yusuf and Banyamin, and despair not of the mercy of Allah Almighty, for it is the attitude of the infidels to be in despair of the mercy of Allah Almighty.”

However, Harzat Yusuf’s – peace be upon Him – brothers left for Egypt and when they reached Azeez-e-Misr (Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him) they said to him, “O Azeez-e-Misr! A very severe calamity has befallen our family and we have come here with few counterfeit coins.  Please give us some grains as charity.”  Hearing the sad story from his brothers and their begging Hazrat Yusuf’s – peace be upon Him – heart had softened and he asked his brothers, “How did you treat your brother Yusuf and Banyamin?”  His brothers asked him looking at him in disbelief, “Is this you, Yusuf?”  He replied, “Yes, I am Yusuf, and this is my brother Banyamin.  Allah Almighty has favoured us in abundance.”  Hearing this his brothers said with utmost grief and shame, “We indeed have done severely wrong, and Allah Almighty has granted you great excellence over us.”  Overwhelmed by the shame and grief of his brothers Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – forgave them and said, “Today, I will not rebuke you.  Go, I have forgiven you all.  May Allah Almighty forgive you!  Take my shirt and go home and put it on my father’s face, he will regain his eyesight, and then you must take all the people of the family and come to Egypt.”

The oldest of them “Yahooda” said, “I will take this shirt because I was the one to soil his shirt in goat’s blood and handed it over to my father.  The way I made him sad by giving him the shirt, today, I will make him happy by giving this shirt to him.”

Hence, when Yahooda reached home with the shirt and placed it on his father’s face his eyesight recovered and then Hazrat Ya’qoob – peace be upon Him – made Du’a for all his children after the time of Tahajjud and this Du’a was answered, and this is how the Wahy revealed on him that all his children were forgiven.

The preparation to leave for Egypt had begun.  Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – had already sent 200 transports with his brothers to bring the whole family.  Hazrat Ya’qoob – peace be upon Him – gathered his whole family, and they were 72 or 73 in number.  All left for Egypt.

Allah Almighty had placed so much Barakah in his children that when Bani Israel left Misr in the time of Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon Him – they were 600,000 in number although the time between that and the time when Hazrat Ya’qoob’s – peace be upon Him – family left for Egypt is only 400 years.

Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – welcomed him with 4,000 troops carrying silky flags in their hands.  Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon Him – came and said, “Look up, there are groups of angels for your welcome”.

When both the father and son came closer and Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – intended to greet his father, Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon Him – told him to hold on and give your father a chance to express his feelings.  Hazrat Ya’qoob – peace be upon Him – greeted him with these words:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْکَ یَا مُذْھِبَ الْاَحْزَانِ

Peace be upon you, O the remover of sorrows!

And then both of them gave each other a warm hug and cried out of happiness and joy.  Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – took him to his palace and made him comfortable.  His 11 brothers made Sajdah before him.  Hazrat Yusuf – peace be upon Him – addressed his father and said:

And he seated his father and mother on the throne, and all fell down prostrate for him, and Yousuf said, ‘O my father, this is the interpretation of my first vision. Verily my Lord has made it true. And no doubt, He favoured me that He brought forth me from the prison, and brought you all from the village after Satan had created dissension between me and my brothers. Surely my Lord makes easy any thing He pleases. Verily He is the knowing, Wise.

(Yusuf 12, Verse 100)

 ----

  1. Hazrat Moosa’s – peace be upon Him – Arrival in Egypt and Killing One of Pharaoh’s Followers:

And he entered the city, at a time, when the people of the city, were unaware in their noon’s nap, and found there two men fighting, one was of Musa’s party, and the other of his enemies. Then the one that was of his party sought from Musa his help against him who was of his enemies. Therefore Musa gave a blow to him and put an end of him; he said, this is of the work of the devil (Satan)’, undoubtedly, he is an enemy, a clear mis-leader.

He submitted, ‘O my Lord’, ‘I have exceeded the limit against my soul, therefore forgive me, then the Lord forgave him. Undoubtedly, He it is the Forgiving, Merciful.

He submitted, ‘O my Lord as you have blessed me, therefore now I shall never be a helper to the culprits.

Then he passed the night in the city fearing and waiting anxiously what happens, when he saw that he who had sought help the day before is crying for help. Musa said to him, undoubtedly, you are manifestly a misguided man’.

Then when Musa wished to lay hold of him who is an enemy to both, he said, ‘O Musa’, do you intend to kill me as you did kill a person yesterday’? You only intend to become violent in the land and intend not to reform.

And a man came running from the far side of the city. He said, ‘O Musa’, undoubtedly, the chiefs are counselling together to kill you, therefore get away; I am your well-wisher’.

Then he got out of the city fearing and waiting anxiously what happens now. He submitted, ‘O my Lord, save me from the oppressors’.

(Al-Qasas 28, Verse 15-21)

  1. The Conquest of Makkah Mukarramah:

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – had said “Farewell” to his beloved homeland of Makkah Mukarramah whilst migrating in the darkness of night with his friend in cave, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq – may Allah be pleased with Him – and he casted a sorrowful glance at Makkah Mukarramah while leaving for Madinah Munawwarah and said, “O Makkah!  I swear by Allah!  You are most beloved to me in my eyes than all the other cities of the world.  If my nation did not expel me I would never abandon you.”

None could say at that time that the one said “Goodbye!” to Makkah Mukarramah in a very poor state would conquer it just after eight years and would enter the Holy Ka’bah and make it holier with his Sajdah but what had happened that the people of Makkah had broken the treaty of Hudaibiyah and broke the promise by mercilessly killing the people of Banu Khaza’ah.  When the poor people of Banu Khaza’ah could not withstand their attack they ran and took refuge in the premises of the Holy Ka’bah but those beasts of humans did not even care about the dignity and the honour of the Haram of Allah and assassinated the people of Banu Khaza’ah in the Holy Ka’bah.  23 men of Banu Khaza’ah were martyred in this attack, and this is how the kuffaar of Makkah had broken the treaty of Hudaibiyah due to this heinous crime which resulted in an introductory foundation for the conquest of Makkah Mukarramah.

On 10 Ramadan the Holy Prophet – May Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – headed towards Makkah Mukarramah with the Army of 10,000 soldiers. The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – and all the companions were fasting when they left Madinah Munawwarah but when he reached the place called “Kudaid” he asked for water and while sitting on his camel he drank the water in front of the entire Army and commanded all to abandon fasting, hence, he and his companions stopped fasting due to being on a journey and war.

(Bukhari Hadeeth No. 4276)

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – and His army headed to the land of Makkah Mukarramah with his victorious personality and commanded to place his flag near Jannat Al-Ma’la and he sent a message to Hazrat Khalid Ibn Waleed – may Allah be pleased with Him – to enter Makkah Mukarramah with the forces from the higher end “Kada”.

(Bukhari Hadeeth No. 4280)

The very first royal command He – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – issued after stepping into the land of Makkah Mukarramah was an announcement which is filled with the waves from the ocean of mercy:

“Whoso surrenders his weapons there is peace for him. Whoso closes his gate there is peace for him and whoso ever enters the holy Ka’bah there is peace for him.”

Hazrat Ibn Abbaas – may Allah be pleased with Him – said at that time, “Oh the messenger of Allah, Abu Sufyaan is a proud man therefore you should issue a command which may raise his head in pride then he stated, “Whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyaan there is peace for him.”

When the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – was entering Makkah Mukarramah victoriously he was sitting on his she camel “Qaswa” wearing a black turban. Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq – may Allah be pleased with Him – was on one side and on the other side it was Hazrat Usaid Ibn Hudair – may Allah be pleased with Him – surrounded by the enthusiastic Army carrying weapons.  Despite having the Royal appearance comprising of the great caravan, the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – was sitting on his camel with his head down in such a state of humility while reciting Surah Fat’h that his head was actually touching the saddle. This state of his was to pay gratitude in the court of Allah Almighty and to express his humility in the mighty court of Allah.

(Zarqaani Vol. 2, p. 320-321)

Entrance in the house of Allah:

He headed towards the Holy Ka’bah with Hazrat Osamah Ibn zaid – may Allah be pleased with Him – behind him on his camel along with Hazrat Bilaal and Hazrat Uthmaan ibn Talha, the key-holder of the Holy Ka’bah – may Allah be pleased with Them – was also with him. He made his camel sit in the early Ka’bah and then he made the Tawaaf of the holy Ka’bah and kissed the Blackstone.

(Bukhari Hadeeth No. 4289)

There was a queue of 360 idols within the boundaries of the Holy Kaaba. He stood with the stick in his hand and hit those idols with it while reciting:

جَآءَ الْحَقُّ وَ زَہَقَ الْبٰطِلُ ؕ اِنَّ الْبٰطِلَ کَانَ زَہُوۡقًا ﴿۸۱﴾

‘The truth has come, and falsehood vanished.”Undoubtedly the falsehood was certain to vanish”.

(Bani Israel 17, Verse 81)

(Bukhari Hadeeth No. 4287)

And then he summoned to take out the idols that were inside the Holy Kaaba itself.  When the Kaaba was purified from all the idols then he entered inside the Holy Kaaba with Hazrat Osamah Ibn Zaid, Hazrat Bilaah and Uthmaan Ibn Talha – may Allah be pleased with Them – and recited Takbeer in all its corners and performed two Rak’ats Salah as well.

(Bukhari Vol. 1, p. 218)

When he came out of the Holy Kaaba he called Hazrat Uthmaan Ibn Talha, gave him the keys of the Holy Kaaba and said to him:

خُذُوْھَا خَالِدَۃً تَالِدَۃً لَّا یَنْزَعُھَا مِنْکُمْ اِلَّا ظَالِمٌ

Take and possess this key forever.  None but an oppressor will snatch it from you.

(Zarqaani Vol. 2, p. 239)

The General Court of the King of both worlds:

After that, he addressed a general mess which included the infidels and polytheists as well as thousands of soldiers of the Muslim army.  He delivered a sermon in this court and then he addressed the people of Makkah Mukarramah specifically, “Tell me, do you know what am I about to do with you today?”

All the criminals began to shiver with the horror of this alarming question but when they realized the merciful nature of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him, they all said unanimously:

اَخٌ کَرِیْمٌ وَ ابْنُ اَخٍ کَرِیْمٍ

“You are a merciful brother and the son of a merciful father.”

Hearing this, the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – said in a merciful tone:

لَا تَثْرِیْبَ عَلَیْکُمُ الْیَوْمَ فَاذْھَبُوْا اَنْتُمْ الطُّلَقَاءُ

“Today, there is no blame on you. You are all free to go.”

(Sharah Zarqaani Vol. 3, p. 449; Sunan Al-Kubra Lil Baihaqi Hadeeth No. 18276)

After listening to this merciful statement the eyes of all the criminals were full of tears due to shame and the holy Kaaba was resounding with the slogans of:

لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللّٰہُ

مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوْلُ اللّٰہِ

That were flowing on the tongues of the infidels.

The history of the conquest of Makkah Mukarramah:

There is conflict of opinions in regards to the day on which Makkah Mukarramah was conquered.  Imam Baihaqi mentioned it to occur on 13 Ramadan, Imam Muslim mentioned 16 Ramadan, Imam Ahmad specified it to be on 18 Ramadan but Muhammad Ibn Ishaaq narrated from a group of his teachers that it was on the 20th of Ramadan in the year 8 A.H. that Makkah Mukarramah was conquered.

And Allah Almighty knows best!

(Sharah Zarqaani Vol. 3, p. 396-397)

The glad tidings of the conquest of Makkah Mukarramah are mentioned in a few verses of the holy Quran and Surah Nasr is also one among them.  Hence, Allah Almighty states as follows:

اِذَا جَآءَ نَصْرُ اللہِ وَ الْفَتْحُ ۙ﴿۱﴾

When the help of Allah and victory come.

And you see men entering the religion of Allah in troops.

Then praising Allah glorify Him and beg His forgiveness. Undoubtedly, He is Most Relenting.

(Al-Nasr 110, Verse 1-3)

The Fast of Thursday:

Imam Ghazali – may Allah be pleased with Him – states that there are three most virtuous days in a week; Monday, Thursday and Friday and it is commendable to fast on those days; its virtuous are multiplied by the blessings of the occasion.

(Ihya Vol. 1, p. 244)

It is mentioned in the Hadeeth Shareef that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – used to fast on Monday, Thursday and Friday.

(Jame’ Sagheer Vol. 5, p. 168)

The Nafl of Thursday:

It is narrated from Hazrat Sayyiduna Ibn Abbaas – may Allah be pleased with Them – that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – has stated:

Whoso prays two Rak’ats Salah between Shuhr and Asr on Thursday; in the first Rak’at recite Surah Fatiha once, followed by Ayatul Kursi 100 times and in the second Rak’at, Surah Fatiha once, followed by Surah Ikhlas 100 times and after concluding the Salah 100 times Durood Shareef, then Allah Almighty will reward him equivalent to the person fasting in Rajab, Sha’baan and Ramadan, and he will also be rewarded as much as the pilgrims who perform Hajj and the virtues for are written measured by the number of believers.
